The injury rate for the Group decreased in the second quarter after increasing in the last four quarters. The cumulative injury rate was 5.4 against 5.8 in the previous quarter. The injury rate increased in Denmark, while it declined in Sweden and Norway.
The Norwegian operations reported six injuries with absence in the quarter. The cumulative rate for the past four quarters was 4.8 compared with 5.1 the previous quarter and 3.8 in the same quarter last year. The injury rate in this quarter was 3.2 compared with 4.5 in the same period last year.
In our Swedish operations, two injuries were reported with absence in the quarter. The cumulative rate for the past four quarters was 8.0 compared with 9.4 the previous quarter and 5.5 in the same quarter last year. Injury rate in this quarter was 5.1 against 2.2 for the same quarter last year.
In our Danish operations, two lost-time injuries were reported in the second quarter. Hoffmann’s cumulative rate for the past four quarters was 7.0 compared with 6.0 the previous quarter and 6.7 in the same quarter last year. The injury rate for this quarter was 9.0.
Operations in Norway, Sweden and Denmark have all begun to record occupational injuries for their subcontractors as well. This applies to lost-time injuries and injuries resulting in relocation or alternative work.
The Group’s HSE award for 2009 was awarded on Veidekke’s Scandinavian HSE Day on 25 May this year. The winner was the project Gulskogen Centre in Veidekke Construction, Buskerud District.

Sickness absence among skilled workers has declined somewhat in all three countries. After an increasing trend towards
year-end in 2009, it has decreased in Norway the past two quarters. In Denmark, sickness absence decreased the past two quarters after having been stable at the end of the year. In Sweden, there was an increase towards the end of the year before it stabilised in the first quarter of this year, and fell this quarter.
