The Group’s total injury rate declined in the first two quarters of 2009 before increasing in the last two quarters. This trend continued into the first quarter of 2010. The cumulative injury rate was 5.8 compared with 5.7 and 4.9 the previous two quarters. The injury rate increased in Sweden, while it declined in Denmark and Norway. The injury rate for the same period last year was 4.5.

The Norwegian operations reported 9 injuries with absence in the first quarter of 2010. The injury rate for the quarter was 5.0 compared with 2.6 in the same period last year.

In our Swedish operations, three lost-time injuries were reported in the first quarter. The injury rate for the quarter was 8.1 as against 2.4 for the same quarter last year.

One injury resulting in absence in our Danish operations was reported in first quarter. The injury rate in the quarter was 4.6 as against 9.2 in the same quarter last year.

The operations in Norway, Sweden and Denmark have now also begun to record occupational injuries among subcontractors. This applies to lost-time injuries as well as injuries resulting in relocation or alternative work. Injury rates reported so far apply only to Veidekke employees, but Veidekke aims to include its sub- contractors in its reporting.

In Norway, sickness absence among skilled workers declined after an increasing trend in the two previous quarters, while in Denmark it decreased after two stable quarters. In Sweden, sickness absence stabilised after having increased the two previous quarters.
