The ethics portal - Veidekkehuset

Veidekke has taken collective responsibility to ensure that the company, as a Group, as individual companies and as individuals acts in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and lives up to Veidekke’s values and ethical guidelines. An important prerequisite to our success in this is being conscious of what is right and wrong, and of which dilemmas we may face. Veidekke’s interactive ethics portal on the web provides training and guidance for dealing with ethical dilemmas.

Veidekke’s core values - professional, honest, enthusiastic and gound-breaking - form the foundation of “Veidekkehuset” (the Veidekke House), the company's management and behaviour model. This is why Veidekke has also given its interactive ethics portal the name "Veidekkehuset". The values are connected to basic ethical principles, and together define both who Veidekke is and what is expected of the company.

Freedom with responsibility

Veidekke expects that employees behave honestly and fairly towards colleagues, partners, customers and suppliers. This means that individuals take responsibility for professional integrity and personal behaviour. At the same time, employees need clear guidelines. Veidekke maintains that poor ethical choices can affect the company's business and reputation. The ethics portal is one of many initiatives to help ensure that the Group, the company and individuals act ethically and responsibly.

Developed by the employees

When you have practiced on ethical issues in advance, it becomes easier to make the correct decisions should dilemmas arise in everyday life. Veidekkehuset, which is accessible in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish, consists of a variety of tools, manuals and dilemma cases that help users to make correct ethical decisions. Great emphasis has been placed on creating an educational, interactive and interesting portal. Cases are presented through realistic films, and users "are forced" to take a stand on many difficult issues. The portal was developed in close cooperation with employees, which we deem absolutely necessary to ensuring that all issues which may arise across departments, projects, regions and countries are covered. There are seven interactive cases presented in the portal, which were developed by seven different working groups, which dove deep into the issues related to each of cases.

Exchange of experience

The ethics portal is used today in management programmes, processes and strategic planning. It has been part of leadership and apprentice meetings. Veidekke-skolen also runs its own ethics workshops. There are about 300 registered users of the portal and over 500 have been into and tested themselves on cases. Feedback is positive, and employees are engaging in good discussions about the dilemmas. Consequently, the portal has also become an arena for exchanging experiences and learning from one another.

How we do things

Veidekke has chosen to make the ethics portal widely available on the web. This makes it very accessible for Veidekke employees but also customers, suppliers and other stakeholders to log in, read, enjoy and learn. This is part of Veidekke’s policy to be an open and clear company.

Moreover, people want to actively involve customers and suppliers in the work of ethics, with the ethics portal as one of several common arenas. Veidekke believes that promoting ethical work externally will generate pride internally and form a solid basis for dialogue between our employees and our stakeholders.
